THE EVENT – OVERVIEW
This training event is aimed at young riders or those senior riders competing at, or aiming to compete at level 3. The weekend will include a talk on fitness & nutrition, fitness check, PTV skills, COP training and POR training (including bearings and grid references). Riders will be grouped according to experience/level.
Friday 29th March
‘Fittening a horse to Level 3’, Guest speaker: Karen Kiely, International Advanced/ Gold Qualified Endurance rider, 3 Star International Endurance Judge, Karen is also a member of Leinster TREC, and is a familiar face to many of us. This talk will also be of use for those competing at or hoping to compete at level 2 this season.

PTV skills (Jumping & Gait) with Adrian Flynn and Winfried Bastian (Timed & Style), TREC Ireland Directors and Coaches
Control of Paces and PTV skills (In Hand) with Karen Murphy, Young Rider Training Co-ordinator
Level 3 POR skills with Gwen Bastian, Young Rider Chef d’Equipe (Route drawing, grid references & bearings). The POR skills section will be planned according the experience of riders

Entries
All entries must be pre paid by cheque or postal order made payable to TREC Ireland. Dinner Saturday evening in also included in the entry fee. Please send entry fee and entry form to Karen Murphy, Kilkenny West, The Pigeons, Athlone, Co.Westmeath.
USEFUL INFORMATION
Food
Dinner on Saturday night is included in entry fee for those taking part in the whole weekend, please indicate on entry form if you require any additional tickets for Saturday nights meal for family or friends! Additional meals will be available to be purchased at the venue. This includes dinner Friday evening, lunch on Saturday & Sunday. Please indicate on entry form if you will require food at these times as the venue need to have an idea of numbers. This additional food has not been included in entry fee in order to keep the cost down for riders, please feel free to bring your own food if you want. Also if you have any special dietary requirements please let us know.
Passports
It is a legal requirement to carry a passport when a horse is used for the purposes of competition. If a horse is transported without a passport when being used for competition purposes an offence is being committed and prosecution is a possibility.
Facilities
Toilets will be provided on site.
Camping
Camping in lorries/horse boxes or tents is permitted. There is a €10 charge for tent/box/lorry per night. This is to be paid directly to venue.
B&B – There is B&B available at the venue, at €25 per person sharing per night, if you have any special requests please contact Peter directly.
Horse Accommodation
All horses must be free from infectious diseases.
Stabling is €10 per night, this includes a small straw bed. Extra straw will be available, please pay the venue for this. If you require shavings, please bring your own as the venue cannot provide it. Bring your own feed & buckets. You will be responsible for cleaning the stable, a shovel and wheelbarrow available on site. Please ensure your stable is clean before leaving on Sunday.
Corralling will be available at the venue and will cost €10 per night. Please bring your own fencing, buckets and feed. Water will be available in the corralling area. Everyone is responsible for cleaning their corral area, please remove all droppings before leaving the venue on Sunday evening. There will be shovels and wheelbarrows available on site. When corralling, please complete the emergency form and attach to your fencing.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED
Bring your normal TREC equipment, including POR equipment. In addition bring plenty of warm clothes and waterproofs. Also suitable footwear for walking! All young riders must wear a body protector for the PTV training.
Withdrawals: TREC Ireland Refund Policy
Events are organized based on number of riders and volunteers and certain costs are fixed. Due to this, refunds will only be made to cancellations prior to the entry closing date of 25th March. A 50% refund will be made to cancellations between 26th & 27th March. Any cancellations made after March 27th, cannot be refunded. TREC Ireland regrets any inconvenience this may cause.
CODE OF ETHICS
TREC Ireland’s ‘Code of Ethics & Good Practice for Children’s Sport’ will be adhered to for this event. Please note the following:
- All parents must fill in ‘Junior Participants Form’ (page 29 of the Code).
- All parents and junior participants must fill in the entry form with the understanding that they ‘agree to abide by TREC Ireland’s code of ethics and good practice’ – this also allows TREC Ireland to include photos of the junior participants on the internet and any newspapers such as The Irish Field.
- Anybody involved in any way with the event on any or all days, must sign in using the provided sign in sheet (in the secretary’s tent).
- Any junior helper must either be accompanied by two adults, an adult family member, or must fill out p.18 of the code, ‘Travelling Leader’ form. It is up to the junior helper to get this filled out and NOT the duty of the organizer.
