Turas Trec
The sun was shining bright at Maple Leaf EC in Limerick for the opening event of the Turas Trec season. One of a pair of warm up events designed to prepare riders for the upcoming full competition at Pallas Stud in Nenagh, Co.Tipperary on July 6th, the day was a great success. The obstacles came up quickly in the course designed by Bambi Carroll and Mary Burns who put the features of the derby style cross country arena to full use. The Open class was hotly contested; Erin Begley won with a master class display in the Control of paces. Mary Burn on Lady Girl finished a close second with Kerry Trec’s Mairead Moynihan coming in third. The novice class welcomed a flood of newcomers eager to try Trec. Organiser Cassie O’Connell ran a brief instructional course walk and explained how they were each judged and the best way to score points. Sandra Hammersly rose to the challenge and won the class with a strong performance with Laura Patterson and young rider Patrick McCormack on his pony Coco battling it out for second and third.
Turas Trec would like to invite riders to compete in the first ever full competition at Pallas Stud just outside Nenagh on July 6th. The orienteering route will take the competitors along country roads and forestry tracks offering exciting views of the Slivermines and Lough Derg. The orienteering and obstacle phase will be combined, riders will be judged on the obstacles on route.
