Leinster TREC held its first three phase event of 2012 on the 1st of September 2012 at Ballyteague Stables, by kind permission of Seamus Brennan. The event was attended by a good mixture of experienced TREC riders and newcomers to the sport. The obstacle course incorporated the control of paces for a different twist to the competition, and the course containing a number of difficult combinations over the 1.4km long track. Topping the scores were Ailbhe Gavin with her Connemara Bob, on 141 points for the obstacles, with newcomer Katie Smyth getting the highest control of paces score on Whitethorn Jack, with 46 points. Gavin went on to win the Level 3 class, her first attempt after winning the Level 2 Pairs at the National Championships in July. Karen Murphy with Mouse managed a fantastic score of 224 in the Orienteering phase, but alas not enough to catch Bambi Carroll and Marty Zee, who put in a solid performance of 346 points overall. All three riders in the Level 3 individual class were within 14 points of each other, a feat at a high level of competition.

Mairead Moynihan and Karen Nicholson were the only contenders in the Level 3 pairs, both on young horses. The pair did very well, with the second highest POR score of the day, on 220. A great result for Nicholson at her first Level 3. The Level 2 individual class proved the most interesting, with first timer Katie Smyth coming second on Whitethorn Jack, with their fantastic COP score bringing them past Sean Fitzgibbon (Amazon Amber) who had a solid performance in the PTV of 127 points. However neither could reach Tara Creighton with Zee, who on her first foray into Level 2 managed to be the outright winner in all three phases!
