Grianan Aileach Stables and Ballinacross Farm combined to host the Donegal TREC Championships in early May. The Saturday was an opportunity for some practice and training on site with the TREC Ireland Young Rider Chef d’equippe, mountain navigation training with Unique Ascent and Control of Paces masterclass with Mary Finneran
The Saturday night saw a few of the competitor’s camp out on site, they were in for a cold wet night but dawn broke early and at last competition day was here! The day commenced with level two and three riders setting off from Ballinacross farm for a POR phase of the competition. Meanwhile the level 1 riders undertook a shorter circular route from An Grianan stables. The routes took the riders over varied terrain including fields, forestry and roads with PTV obstacles located at each check point. When riders reached the finish line there was a Control of Paces test before tucking into the feast prepared by Leo Porter.
Donegal TREC would like to thank all who contributed to the success of the weekend, riders, land owners, TD Karen Murphy, venue hosts Grianan Aileach Stables and Ballinacross Farm and all the volunteers who assisted in the planning and running of the event.
